theendisthebeginning
.. theendisthebeginning is a five-headed beast breathing a sonic fog.
clint enjoys double entendres, walls of sound, staying up ‘til the wee hours of the morning, and doing the “hitchhiker” on the dance floor
mondo enjoys using his hands, growing his hair long, johnny marr, and dips in the pacific ocean even on show days
ryan enjoys new plug-ins, cursing like a sailor, mike patton, and when others call theendisthebeginning “his band”

“ The album is also a perfect five track, 20 minute length, short enough that the similarity between tracks doesn’t become monotonous or tedious, but long enough that you don’t walk away thinking you’d missed something. It’s also a very enjoyable 20 minutes. The album has a dream-like, ethereal quality that is incredibly soothing. As I said, the tracks are similar, but they also have a few subtle differences that makes each enjoyable in its own right. You’ll find yourself singing along to the catchy chorus of “Team Torment.” “Serpentile” is the most upbeat track and the album, perfectly placed after three more toned-down tracks and right before finale, "Master Machine." With a short buildup initiated by percussion and guitar before being joined one by one by the other band members, the track grabs your attention more than any other on the album.

Incorporating mixed meter compositions with unique instrumentation and excellent vocals, "theendisthebeginning" paints an audible soundscape that immediately captures the listener's ear. Master Machine is a coherent project of inspired artistry - flowing evenly from beginning to end - the end of this musical gem could easily become the beginning. ~ Mark McKinley

“ The superb debut EP Master Machine from Southern California-based act theendisthebeginning is a polished and poised effort that is both lucid and driven. The music is exceptional and dwells in complex and brooding atmospheres and is conveyed in delicately layered brushstrokes. Master Machine blends soulful vocals, shuffling rhythms, ricocheting guitars and ornate synths into a measured and beautifully crafted CD. The EP is an ambitious, multi-layered portrait that unfolds over 20+ minutes of inexorable melodies, passionate lyrics and great music. Fans of Broken Social Scene and the earlier works of U2 will enjoy this release immensely. But make no mistake, the band surely set out to create something bold and inventive. In short order, theendisthebeginning has certainly succeeded with Master Machine. ~Michael Canter

“ There's a lot to say about ambient rock outfit theendisthebeginning: They're large. Aside from being a 6-piece outfit, their music is all about soaring vocals and big prog-rock landscapes to the likes of As Tall As Lions and Circa Survive. Tracks from their debut LP master machine [sic] offer layers upon layers of well produced space sonics and tight performances, making their first impression a truly memorable one. But it is in the live avenue where we'll see how far theendisthebeginning can take their tracks. We'll be keeping tabs with them.

“ I could tell right away that they had a carefree and quirkiness that often makes for some good music, even if it does leave you scratching your head sometimes. If you haven’t figured it out by now the main cannon fodder for the band’s songs is love and the many different forms that it takes, from hopeful and fresh, to being filled with feeling of despair and betrayal. If you’re looking for an introspective look at love that’s set against a backdrop of atmospheric, scene painting music, then Master Machine will work nicely. ~C.W.
